Today was a weird day. It’s been fifty years since JFK was killed in Dallas. Still blows my mind that such a thing actually happened. Watching some old news clips today, it reminded me of how much has changed in fifty years. Back then all you had for news was a radio station and a few channels on the TV. People found out about The President of the United States being assassinated only if they had a radio or TV nearby. And the news broadcasts were like watching Edward R. Murrow. A bunch of cigarette smoking, gritty men right out of Mad Men central casting all telling you about actual news. Not only that, but they would do this only twice a day, once at 5PM and again at 11PM, or maybe less. Anyone, Beuller?
Other things have changed too. For one, no president goes anywhere in public today that hasn’t been swept, cordoned and stripped searched. And if something did happen we would know about it milliseconds later and see it from every angle, including 3-D! Another thing that has changed is the president. Yeah, he’s black, but I was talking about Kennedy. I wasn’t aware of this, but Kennedy, it turns out, was a conservative.
That’s right. It’s true! Well…sort of. Well, no, not really. Better yet, I’ll let wingtopia explain it for you:
- Glenn Beck: Kennedy Would Be “A Tea Party Radical.”
- Rush Limbaugh: Kennedy “Was Not In Any Way A Liberal As You Know Liberals Today.”
- Chris Wallace: “There Is A Growing Body Of Thought That In Fact President Kennedy Was Quite Conservative.”
- Breitbart.com’s Joel Pollak: “JFK Would Have Rejected The Iran Deal.”
What was that last one? What else would JFK have done? This is so fascinating! Like I said, today was a weird day. Fifty years have gone by since 11/22/63. Anyone born on that day feels pretty weird too, and probably a little depressed.
What I want to know is, am I losing my mind? Has the earth officially flipped on its axis? Well, no. Not really. It’s just right wingers doing what they do best; trying to distract us from the fact that they have really shitty heroes. Just this week George Zimmerman was arrested for assault, James Woods is still James Woods, and George W. Bush is selling his artwork as christmas ornaments. At this rate, I imagine in several years we’ll find out that RFK was actually Ted Nugent’s uncle.
I guess I can’t blame the Right for claiming Kennedy as their own today. They really have no choice. But it confuses me too. Since the Right’s listeners and watchers were probably adults and republican in 1963, you would think they would be confused by this. My guess is that they hated Kennedy in 1963, about as much as they hate Obama now. After all, back then Kennedy might have well been black. In 1963, being catholic was nearly as bad as being black. Furthermore…
You know what? I am starting to sound a little too factual. There is really no place for that in this article. So I’ll stop. Happy Anniversary JFK, you right-winger you.

1. Ted Cruz introduced a bill in Congress offering a $5 million reward for information on the Benghazi terror attack.
2. A law banning undetectable firearms is set to expire
Now, trick question, one of these stories is way more important than the other. Can you guess which one? If you chose the first one then you are a republican and should not even be reading this blog. If, however, you said the second then pay attention because this is not a joke.
From the LA Times: A 25-year-old federal law requiring that all guns be detectable by security screeners will expire Dec. 9.
You want to read that again? I think you should in order to fully grasp the situation. There is apparently a law out there that requires guns be made of metal so that metal detectors can pick them up. It’s crazy to think that such a law would even have to exist. I mean, Take The Money and Run was funny, but a gun made out of soap is really not that dangerous. So why all the fuss?
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials said this week that they themselves had made and fired eight rounds with a printed handgun called the Liberator; officials ordered that the gun’s design be taken down from a website last May, but not before the design had been downloaded more than 100,000 times.
What? A printed handgun? Oh yes.
The 3-D printed gun’s maker told the BBC: “I recognize that the tool might be used, yeah, to harm other people. That’s what it is. It’s a gun. But again, I don’t think that’s a reason not to do it, to not put it out there. I think that liberty, in the end, is a better interest.
We. Are. So. Screwed.
The question now becomes: Will Republican’s actually allow this law to expire? Do they even have balls that large? Will someone from the NRA go on Meet The Press and say that this law infringes upon the 2nd amendment? Will they argue that requiring guns to be made of metal so as to be detectable in airports, court houses and other large gatherings is anti-American and not as the founders intended? And of those 100,000 who have already downloaded the design specifications, and the million more who will now do so after reading about how you can download plans to make your very own undetectable plastic gun, will they comply with a law that nobody even knew existed? Will they say, “Oh darn! I thought I could make an undetectable plastic gun, but now I am required to get a a metal trigger! DAMN YOU OBAMA!”?
Democrats in the Senate and the House have new versions of the law that would, among other things, require a gun’s barrel, slide and receiver to be made from metal, which would make them detectable by most security scanners. But they don’t seem to be advancing speedily to votes.
In case you were not aware, we’re coming on a year since Newtown. Nothing has changed and in fact may be about to get way worse. Kind of makes me want to learn more about Ted Cruz’s reward money, Benghazi thing. I could use a little comedy to go with all the insanity.

Has this been a crazy year for politics or what? I mean, it’s like every week a major crises emerges and each time it gets nuttier and nuttier. The most recent of course is the faulty Obamacare website. Holy schnikes Batman! It’s bad!! Real bad!!!
What I don’t get is why is the Right is so upset about it? If I were on the Right, and I had a radio show or blog, I would be celebrating the failure of this website from the rooftops. I would be laughing and saying how great it is that the website is broken. A broken website means nobody can sign up, thus We the People are saved from the evils of Obamacare. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! This is exactly what the Right has wanted from day one.
Weird thing is all I hear on AM radio is what a failure Obama is and how dare he try to launch a website. They talk about him as if he is an IT guy working in his cubicle just screwing up all the code. I know we think the President is in change of every damn thing, but he’s the CEO! How much does the CEO really know about the day-to-day? A small company maybe, but the United States of America?
It’s actually quite funny to listen to. They Right is trying so hard to find reasons to bash the President, but then they always fall short. They are trying to use this debacle to speak to those who voted for Obama and Obamacare and give them empathy, as if to woo them over to their way of thinking. Thing is, in a month when the site is up and running and everything’s fine the Right will realize they missed an golden opportunity to do what they should have done from the start: Bring down the internet!
Think about it. If the internet stops working then Obamacare is dead in its tracks. Sure there are paper applications, but this is the internet age. If the website is down then millions will be cut off. It is like defunding Obamacare, but without all the work.
Reality is though once the site is fixed people will sign up and they will like it. That makes the Right cringe. They know the deal and went with empathy. They should have gone with plan B.

“At one point, according to the Virginia State Police, four commercial vehicles slowed traffic to 15 mph after the drivers rode side-by-side across all four northbound lanes of I-495 in Virginia. Police pulled the drivers over and warned them not to impede traffic.”
“They’re traveling with the flow of traffic, which is slow due to the heavy volume and weather conditions…Still no incidents to report.”
– Dumbasses. The Tea Party are like that crazy uncle you put up with because he makes you laugh, until you finally kick his ass out.

The government is closed! National parks are barricaded!! Panda Cams are dark!!! Obamacare exchange servers are crashing!!!! Angry truckers are coming to D.C. as part of a three-day protest to “shut down America” and “restore our Constitutional Republic!!!!!”
Wait, what was that last one?
Amidst all the turmoil in Congress and as if Obama doesn’t have enough on his hands, some crazy, red neck truckers aim to tie up three lanes of Interstate 495 circling the nation’s capital this Friday with big rigs in order to have “the last peaceful defensive stand in a war that has been declared by Wall Street, Washington, and the Whitehouse upon the American people.” In other words, this should be fun.
Seriously, here’s the story:
“[A] Georgia trucker handling logistics, Earl Conlon, told U.S. News & World Report that he and other truckers would block the highway if police intervened and that they also would try to arrest members of Congress for disregarding the Constitution.”
“We want these people arrested, and we’re coming in with the grand jury to do it…We are going to ask the law enforcement to uphold their constitutional oath and make these arrests. If they refuse to do it, by the power of the people of the United States and the people’s grand jury, they don’t want to do it, we will. … We the people will find a way.”
You gotta love the Tea Party. If nothing else, and I mean nothing else, these guys are so insane that their antics are becoming funnier every time they pull a stunt. All I can think of when I hear stories like this is Glenn Beck laughing his ass off all the way to the bank and FOX realizing that they have created a monster that is destined to bring them down, all the way down, if this kind of stuff keeps up.
These truckers are yet another example of our media getting the best of not very bright people who believe the words coming from the talking heads and the republican leaders enabled by them on the radio and tv. They believe them so much in fact that they are convinced that they too can affect change through intimidation and bullying. What we are seeing is simply a bunch of children copying the behavior of their fathers. If republicans can hold the government hostage then why not some dumb as shit truckers?
It is becoming quite clear that these past five years have been quite hard on republicans. They have been brought to the edge of insanity as a result of having a black democratic president and having told so many lies to try to defeat him that they and their followers are now unable to tell reality from Fox & Friends. I find it so wonderfully amusing too how these ignorant souls will take to the streets in their semis to protest the very things the occupiers were fighting for so many eons ago; like low wages, high fuel prices, Wall Street corruption and power being distributed to the wealthy few while everyone else suffers. I am quite sure these same truckers were scoffing at those hippies and telling them to get jobs and to stop being lazy.
Imagine these trucking protesters actually had real grievances and really cared about the things they say they care about? They could have driven their trucks onto Wall Street and showed some solidarity with the tent dwellers who were equally upset. Alas, the reason that didn’t happen is because these truckers are not focused or serious. They are simply led by folks crazier than them whose agenda has nothing to do with fairness as much as it has to do with living in the land of crazy. One of the co-organizers of Friday’s BJ and The Bear reunion, a woman named Zeeda Andrews said this not too long ago:
Osama Bin Laden is our President Obama do your research. The CIA has been preparing for this since he was a boy. They have same height, bone structure, hands and ears both are left handed the Osama face was created by Hollywood. The fox is in the hen house.
Here is a link to the truckers manifesto, if you care to read it. You may find that it is devoid of any goals or purpose, outside of confirming that they are indeed crazy. It also states that this event will be their “last peaceful defensive stand.” What does that mean? Is an armed insurrection scheduled for the following Friday?
With a shutdown underway and republicans totally being blamed for it, these nutty truckers are only going to make things worse for republicans’ already falling poll numbers when they piss off a lot of cops and female motorists just trying to get to work or get their kids to school on time. But the truckers don’t really care about any of that. All they care about is a higher minimum wage, lower fuel prices and less corruption on Wall Street and Washington. Oh and that our president is really Osama Bin Ladin in disguise.
If you think about it, this Friday should be pretty apropos to whats happening in D.C. These truckers, like those in congress, may soon find themselves down a very lonely road and quite obviously running on less than a full tank.

Obamacare is here. But what ever happened to the Affordable Care Act? I would have much preferred the ACA over Obamacare and the willful killing of our grandmothers. How was this travesty ever allowed to occur?
Of course I am kidding, but I bring this up because there are quite a few out there who are not. A recent poll by CNBC showed that when asked which of two health care initiatives people would prefer they found that forty-six percent oppose Obamacare while only 37 percent oppose the ACA. Thing is, they’re the same fu**ing thing!! Seems republican types and those brilliantly informed “independents” we hear so much about during election season are more willing to support the Affordable Care Act over Obamacare.
What are we to do with this information? Should we mock those who voted in this poll? Should we smack them? Should we laugh at them? Should we deny them health care insurance and tax them heavily just because of their willful ignorance? How about the Obama Administration changes the name of the ACA to Cookies and Ice Cream? Would that make it easier for these geniuses to understand?
We once believed, and perhaps still do, that the children are our future. Which generation were these children and what the hell went wrong? Whatever high hopes we might have for “the children” and the lovely songs written about them, we are obviously not there yet. Maybe we just should start listening to the lyrics more closely. The “teach them well” part is obviously being ignored while “they can’t take away my dignity” is a train that has long since left the station.
Call them cynical or call them smart, politicians are nothing if not manipulative and masters of obfuscation. As a populace, we seem sadly and ignorantly willing to go along with them; yet another generation whose parents had such high hopes only to find their children piled up at the bottom of the cliff once again.
Obamacare is here and so is the ACA. They are one in the same. Blind ignorance and a willingness to believe what politicians say rather than learning for ourselves may be as well.

From: A Brief Interlude With Expert Opinion
By Charles P. Pierce
“What I don’t get is these stupid governors who are turning down the Medicaid expansion,” he said. “This is preposterously stupid. First of all, your low-income people get health-insurance, and you get billions and billions of dollars of stimulus in health-care spending. For example, there are one million uninsured Floridians who are below the poverty line. The federal government is saying we’ll pay to insure them, and, in addition, we’re sending billions of dollars to you. And Rick Scott says no. There is no basis for turning this down except to put your political agenda ahead of the needs of your state’s citizens. They say they’re worried about the federal deficit? Why? They’re governors, for god’s sake. This is one of the criminal failures of our political system. It is an enormous failure.”
How To Think About Obamacare
By Andrew Sullivan
“The thing that staggers me about the Republican hatred of this law is its abstract quality. They never address the real problem of our massively inefficient private healthcare market, which is a huge burden on the economy. They never address how to help the millions of uninsured adults get the care all human beings need. They appear to regard a Heritage Foundation, free-market-designed, private healthcare exchange system as some kind of communist plot. They do not seem to believe there is any pressing problem at all. And they have nothing constructive to offer.”
“This is not about Obamacare. It is not even about politics. It is about a form of revolt against the very country they live in.”
By tmcbpatriot | September 26, 2013 | No Comments
It all over folks. Our long national nightmare is over. In just a few short days Obamacare will be the law of the land and republicans will move on. They will have no other choice. They have already begun. Now that Ted Cruz is no longer standing, John Boehner and team are already working on holding the debt limit hostage….again! Following that? I suspect Iran will take center stage and then lord know what else. I also suspect republicans will start focusing more intensely on Hillary while making sure Chris Christie attends eaters anonymous and fat camp, ASAP.
The reality is that Obamacare is quite benign and will enable a lot of people to get health insurance. For republican politicians this really sucks because as with most public initiatives created by democrats nothing evil will ever come of it. Remember “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”? That’s going on two years now and last I heard soldiers are still not wearing dresses and high heels. You think gay marriage will still be an issue in 2015? Think again. Unless thousands of gays suddenly demand to marry their dogs or San Francisco gays start pricking people all over the country with their rings, it is a non-starter.
No. Come election time people of all political persuasions will be enjoying Obamacare as much as they enjoy their weekends, paid holidays, clean-ish air and water, regulations that keep our food from poisoning us, the internets (thank you Al Gore), unemployment insurance, legal weed, avoiding war, and a bunch of other nifty stuff we all take for granted and that liberal’s have given us.
As for republican’s, well they have some reminders too, like mandatory vaginal probes, defunding planned parenthood, not creating jobs, Ted Cruz, mass shootings, latino hatred, disenfranchising black voters and of course Benghazi. In all fairness, I am sure there are those who actually like all that stuff way more than Obamacare and will for sure continue to vote republican no matter what. But by giving people more nifty stuff that may actually improve their lives? That just might throw favor to the democrats for some time to come, something republican politicians are very well aware of.
Yes, Obamacare is yet another accomplishment by those damn liberals who can’t stop helping people while republicans are working so hard to try to take it all away. How did it all come to this, they wonder, when mandatory vaginal probes seemed like a sure winner?

Ted Cruz is talking and he will talk until he can no longer stand. Great! If he is no longer able to stand that means I do not have to look at his dopey expression for a few days. Cruz kind of reminds me of Lou Costello. Not that I have anything against Lou Costello. I just cannot take a guy seriously who I can picture in a bowler while getting slapped around by Bud Abbott, or in this case the GOP.
Ted Cruz is drama and comedy all rolled into one and to the nth degree. In fact, his side show, non-filibuster filibuster was actually discussed with Harry Reid beforehand. I guess Reid saw the humor in letting this guy grandstand a bit longer before he becomes a footnote in the annals of egotistical, impatient, self-serving politicians who wanted the White House so badly that they were willing to do whatever it took, no matter how foolish the endeavor.
I will be glad when this is all over and Obamacare becomes part of the fabric of our society. Like Medicare and Social Security, Obamacare will remind us once more how democrats actually work to provide real solutions while republicans like to play “whose on first” in an attempt to keep us wondering what the hell is going on. It may be good for a few laughs, but at the end of the day it’s entertainment meant to distract from the reality of things getting done by democrats. Soon the GOP will find itself without much of a leg to stand while Ted Cruz becomes a reminder of how bad things could be if we decided to elect one of them to the presidency again. Hopefully this whole drama gave us food for thought. Wait, don’t tell me. He’s the catcher.

Is there anyone out there who reads and follows politics who believes that bi-partisanship is possible? I find that those who believe such things are often very disconnected from the news and don’t really follow politics on a daily basis or at all. If you did then you would know that politics is all about getting money after you are elected so that you can run again. That’s really all it is. It’s about being a salesman. Granted, there are some very talented politicians, but for the most part, it is about keeping the coffers full and keeping political talk show hosts employed.
I was thinking about this after reading tons of comments from blog readers who have been taking sides in this Putin NYT’s article thing. It has been really upsetting to see so many people actually defending Putin. It is as if they know nothing of his history, or his leadership, or the fact that last November these same people were ready to vote for Mitt Romney, who said that Russia was “without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe.”
Whether he was right or wrong about that, the point is that if Romney were now president and Putin wrote this same article, those same people would be hanging their flags from their porch and changing the name of Russian dressing to Freedom dressing. To even consider otherwise is to be so naive that you think FOX is a reliable news source because they say so.
Of course when you call the commenters on it the response is always the same: “This is not the same as the Iraq war!” and “If Bush were president Putin and Assad would be in Gitmo.” I just made those quotes up just now. But I guarantee you these two quotes are written on a comment board somewhere, verbatim.
It all just becomes so silly when we fight with each other over the same things we fought over when the last guy was president. Only difference is, now they actually have weapons of mass destruction, have gassed their own people and we are doing everything we can to avoid war. Other than that it’s pretty much the same.
I guess what I am trying to say is that when I read comments from right wingers and then find myself pointing out their laughable hypocrisy to them, it becomes clear that I am wasting my time. There is no such thing as bi-partisanship. Bi-partisanship is a fantasy, save for an alien invasion, and even then I am sure we’d work together long enough to kill them or to learn their stance on abortion and gay marriage. However, if they have ray guns, I can pretty much guarantee a spot on Fox & Friends.

The title of this post is taken from an actual quote on the comment board of Pravda’s website. Pravda of course is Russia’s goto source of political news and the one most associated with the Communist Party. It’s not been twelve hours since the tides turned from going to war with Syria to a potential stand down by Assad of his entire chemical weapons program and already the right wing are defecting faster than Vladimir Ivanoff in Moscow on The Hudson.
Good god man, what hath Obama wrought?
Yesterday, a freelance conservative blogger with a Russian sounding name wrote a scathing article about Obama and his supposed power struggle with Putin over Syria’s chemical weapons program. Putin’s wall Obama’s fall lays out a factless, partisan argument that President Obama has said “uncle” to the beloved leader of a free Russia. What’s amazing to me though is not the article itself. It was written by a conservative Russian. I can pretty much guarantee where his opinion and fear will take him. What is amazing to me are the comments that follow it, comments written by, one can only assume, American conservatives in search of yet another made up reason to bash Obama.
For example, here are just some of the comments, in addition to the one that titles this post:
“Putin made obozo look like a fool again thank you, mr. president!!”
“The once Evil Empire (as said by Ronald Reagan one of the greatest Presidents the US ever had) is now the Empire that wants Peace. Who would have guessed that American is the evil agressor now in Syria and Russia is the peace maker.”
“GOOD JOB PUTIN”
“A lot of weak little corporate props passing themselves off as leaders wish they were as popular as Putin now.”
“The us corp media is mostly propaganda. thank you pravda and President Putin for standing to the the evil obama gangsters”
It goes on and on like this. People with names like Lee White, Leo Derosia and other white sounding names all praising a Russian, KGB, communist. You can’t make this stuff up because nobody would believe you! Now, in all fairness these could be Russian’s with really non-Russian sounding names or Russians who love creating screen names using really non-Russian sounding names. But if I were to go back to 1984 and tell Ronald Reagan and his supporters that in 2013 Republicans would be referring to the current Russian leader as a candidate for U.S. president, let’s just say that the look on their faces would be worth the trip alone.
I find it hilarious that Republicans continuously prove that they do not understand the meaning of the word irony. I also find it annoyingly amusing when they seem willing to agree with just about anyone, even a sworn enemy of the United States, so long as it means making Obama look like a fool at the end of the day.
It’s quite pathetic really and I expect it to continue for a little while longer. But if this war with Syria never materializes and Assad agrees to give up all of his chemical weapons then isn’t that really a testament to good ol’ fashioned diplomacy and emotional intelligence? Isn’t this also something this country was sorely lacking approximately 8,000 dead American soldiers ago?
What may turn out to be a peaceful resolution to a major crises means that our president took his case to the world and found partnership with a leader whose country Mitt Romney said was ’our number one geopolitical foe.’ You have to give props where props are due. Imagine if George W. Bush did the same thing in Iraq? Imagine he and the man he lovingly referred to as “pooty poot” had worked together on a diplomatic solution in Iraq instead of invading it? Of course you can’t. The two are not the same. Syria actually has weapons!
Republicans are simply a breed who honestly do not understand what they are doing or saying. They couldn’t possibly. For me to believe otherwise there would have to be evidence of it, based in fact. Over and over again though, Republicans simply cannot produce any and instead continue to use empty, angry rhetoric to hurl accusations and insults at a man who just may be one of the smartest presidents we have ever had.
I have an idea. How about Obama for RUSSIAN president in 2018!!?? We have to wait that long because when Putin became president of Russia he changed the term limit from four years to six years.
Like I said, you can’t make this stuff up.

I tell you what, I truly don’t understand t.v. punditry. Why is it that none of these clowns ever go on their political shows and actually discuss political strategy and actual politics? It’s as if their only job is to turn whatever goes on in Washington into some reality t.v. drama where the President is Mr. Obvious and the government is a soap opera where politicians operate out of personal vendetta’s rather than pointing out that nothing in Washington moves unless it is for political advantage, period.
If we are to believe the pundits then we would also have to believe that chess is a game of chance where the pieces move willy nilly around the board until somebody wins by accident or by dumb luck. For the punditry to disregard the clear rules of the game is disingenuous or woefully ignorant.
Case in point…Mark Halperin, star of one of the dumbest of the dumb t.v. political talk shows, Morning Joe, said this recently about the situation with Syria:
“Yesterday I thought [Obama would win the vote]; now I’m deeply skeptical…Time is not on the president’s side right now…public opinion and the member dynamics are all going against the White House. I’m not sure, now, how they get time back on their side.”
Wow, Mark? Let me see if I understand you. Yesterday you thought Obama might get the votes and today not so much? Damn! That is quit an astute and deeply experienced observation. Please, tell me more!
I want to point out too that the story where I read about Halperin’s childishly nuanced analysis began by pointing out that Mark is “still-bearded.” You see for reasons unknown to me Mr. Halperin apparently stopped shaving a while back and has since grown a beard, which usually happens when shaving ceases. More importantly, a character on a t.v. show changed his look and when that happens viewers become absolutely giddy with wonder as to why.
In fact, that Halperin is sporting facial hair seems to be the bigger story, instead of say how the politicians in Washington are moving their pieces around the political chess board. Isn’t that far more interesting to the viewer of political shows? One would think. For example, what if Halperin, in his hairy best, talked about how Republicans might be against going into Syria out of fear of increasing the deficit and asking people to sacrifice, which is what wars tend to do. Plus, if you recall, Dick Cheney once quipped during the Iraq war that “deficits don’t matter.” Are Republicans in 2013 afraid of being caught saying the exact opposite of Dick Cheney during war time? Inquiring minds want to know!
What if Halperin talked about the fact that supporting the president at this point is just so anathema to the Republican Party that it is simply no longer within their range of motion? I mean, what the hell politicos? Speaking of which:
From Politico: If the Senate passes a use-of-force resolution next week — which is no sure thing — the current dynamics suggest that the House would defeat it. That would represent a dramatic failure for Obama, and once again prove that his sway over Congress is extraordinarily limited.
What? And how can you say the administration is losing? Since this Syria crises began Obama has managed to turn previously war hungry House Republicans into bumbling hypocrites who are divided among the hawks and the isolationists. Obama has also managed to turn the once proud “noun-verb-9/11″ neo-cons into anti-war, carefully deliberating, defenders of a muslim despot and terrorist who “gassed his own people” and all in the weeks leading up to 9/11!!! That sure as shit sounds like winning to me. Why is nobody talking about this?! Attention Pundits! Pull your collective heads out of your asses! Politics is happening right in front of your face!!
And can I just add one more thing here? In 2002 another guy with facial hair, mustachioed then-Undersecretary of State John Bolton, gave a speech entitled “Beyond the Axis of Evil” in which he included Syria and called them “state sponsors of terrorism that are pursuing or who have the potential to pursue weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or have the capability to do so in violation of their treaty obligations”. In fact, when you have a moment, read the full speech and then also read this article from the Washington Times, circa 2003.
Again I ask, isn’t this way more interesting than this?:
From NBC FirstRead: “The first place for news and analysis from the NBC News Political Unit – This all sets up a situation in which the Obama administration and its allies have 96 hours to change the momentum if they’re going to get Congress to pass an authorization approving limited action in Syria. Does Obama address the nation next week to better sell this to the public and their representatives? (Only way he doesn’t is if the White House abruptly decides Congress is a lost cause.) Does his challenge get easier — or harder — when most members actually return to Washington next week?
Get the popcorn honey, this is going to be better than Breaking Bad! Why not just give us a clock counting down on the bottom of our screen like “24″?
I guess I really can’t blame Halperin and the rest for wanting to turn this whole thing into some kind of West Wing episode for the viewers at home. After all, there are alot of people who actually watch Morning Joe and wonder to each other aloud about that beard. Will Obama get the votes? Will McCain prevail? Will John Boehner cry? Tune in tomorrow morning at 8:00a.m. to find out, followed immediately by Shaving Mark Halperin at 9:30a.m.
It’s Must See T.V.® America. You won’t want to miss it.

Caught this the other day. Can you imagine this country if we had thoughtful politicians such as this? What a different, more intelligent place this would be. But I dream. Anyway, check out the Australian Prime Minister responding to a close minded, backwards-ass, Christian Bible thumper who “understands” only the parts of the Bible that fit his simple, closed minded world view, and his public thumping by a man far smarter and more thoughtful than he can ever hope to be:

WASHINGTON – Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday portrayed the current conflict in Syria as one between the government of President Bashar Al Assad, who Paul said “has protected Christians for a number of decades,” and “Islamic rebels,” who Paul said “have been attacking Christians” and are aligned with Al Qaeda.
You want to read that again? Something that nutty might not sink in the first time. I’ll wait.
So like I was saying, Rand Paul is fucking crazy! You’d have to be crazy to go on television and say that the president of Syria is really just a misunderstood, Christian loving, swell guy. I am not going to start promoting going to war on this or any other blog, but for a Republican to defend a dictator who “gassed his own people ©” — Copyright Republican, 2001-2008 — and deflecting his atrocities by saying he adores Christians is just downright, off the wagon, wingnuttery of the third kind.
What’s his goal in saying this? To prove that he truly hates war? To prove that he is as libertarian as he wants to be? To sound a dog whistle to Evangelicals for 2016? Do Evangelicals even still exist? Last time I heard about them Friends was still making new episodes. Well, according to this story on Huffpost that is exactly what he is doing:
So far this year, Rand Paul has traveled to Israel, spoken to a number of evangelical groups, and invited the Christian Broadcasting Network into his home for a special half-hour program called “At Home with Rand Paul.”
You see what I mean? Dude is a whack job of the highest order. And he wants to be president! That reminds me. I am going to now update my previous post here by adding that with Obama playing the war hawk on Syria he has also managed to splinter the Republican party into two groups: the Isolationists, starring Rand Paul, and the Neo-Con’s For War Who Are Against Obama Party©, Copyright Tmcbpatriot, just now.
In keeping with my previous post, I guess this is really more like a royal flush. Nice hand, Mr. President! Might be time for Republicans to think about cashing in their chips and going home.

So Obama wants to go into Syria and kick some middle eastern butt, and he’s willing to do it alone. Man, that sounds like a man on fire! A man enraged! A man with a plan! A man who is saying to Assad: “I’m sick of your shit and I’m not gonna take it anymore, beatch!”
That’s great! You go President Obama! You go in there and tell that Syrian monster what’s what! BAM! BIFF! POW! OOF! THWACK! You are Batman, Mr. President, or Batman is you. I can’t tell which.
Nevertheless, there is one thing I’d like to say about all of this, Mr. President, before we go tearassing into another country for another decade. You see, I’m not really buying any of it.
In order for me to do that I would first have to believe that you have gone crazy and/or decided to go rogue. But then, no president in their right mind would ever take this approach, not while also taking themselves seriously. This has to be some kind of political theater you have going on here, right? You can’t actually be responding to this Syrian madman by angrily raising your fists into the air while shouting: “America will not lie down to tyranny and terrorists and we will spread Democracy to every corner of the globe and warm you in her beautiful, buxom bosom!”
You can’t actually be willing to bomb the shit out of Syria for real, like you are Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2 With a Vengeance. It has to be something else. The truth must be that you want to scare the crap put of a certain group of people into believing you are the “don’t fuck with me” president. Perhaps all of this is just posturing to show the GOP that you mean business.
And maybe with only a month to go before Obamacare officially goes public you want to move the focus away from what will essentially be your legacy and give politicians and voters something else to talk about for a while, like an R rated action movie starring an angry black man with an itchy trigger finger, for instance.
It’s a brilliant move and also a great hand to be dealt about now. It leaves Republicans with a decision and a problem. Republicans have to either support a war mongering president, like they used to do, or fall over themselves to make Obama look like an incompetent fool, out of control and reckless. It’s almost as if Obama is challenging Republicans to be true to their war loving ways or say out loud that another man who “gassed his own people” should be given a pass because the man who wants to go after him is not smart enough as president to know what the hell he is doing.
That’s awesome! You have to admit. That takes skill and mastery of political poker to corner your opponent like that. Republicans are so tangled up in this game that the odds are really not in their favor. Hell, this week people like Don Rumsfeld went on television and nearly defended Assad! That is like Republicans saying to the president: “we will see your war posturing and raise you insanity times 50!” Republicans are like Teddy KGB from Rounders saying to the president: “Mr. Son of a bitch, let’s play some cards!”
Aces full, Barry?
Not so fast. There is something else going on here that is quite interesting too. While Republicans are trying their hardest to hurt Obama with all of their warnings about going to war too soon and being foolhardy in his approach, they are also showing the country and the world their tell. By going against Obama’s desire to attack Syria they are admitting that going into Iraq was a gigantic blunder. They are telling us that going into Syria will be a disaster too and will cost us thousands of lives and trillions of dollars that we cannot afford. It’s as if they are shouting from the rooftops: “This time around we Republicans are not going to let another clusterfuck occur in the Middle East on our watch, at least not without first knowing for sure if “curveball” is telling us the truth or not.
Now that’s masterful political poker, is it not? Is Obama really that good? Kind of makes me wonder if Obama is separating his oreo cookie right about now, if the president has flopped the nut straight, if the president is saying to his opponent: ”in my club, I will splash the pot whenever the fuck I please.”
Well now it’s your move, Republicans. But I’d be careful, if I were you. Don’t start feeling too satisfied with yourselves just yet. From the looks of it, Obama can go on busting you up all night.

…save me from myself,
purge me of this love…
…so that I can defend her.
I fight against myself.
That scene from Excalibur — one the greatest films ever made by the way — reminded me of something the RNC did this past week. Once again they have fallen deep for their love of stupidity and awoke to find themselves naked, impaled, bleeding and scared to death.
If you recall, the other day Reince Priebus announced that the RNC doesn’t “have time for the media’s games.” As a result, “The Republican National Committee (RNC) voted unanimously…to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for the 2016 GOP presidential primary debates, unless the networks kill their planned films on Hillary Clinton.”
Now, when you read stories like this your first thought might be that these guys are insane. You may also think that they are being totally hypocritical. After all, Reince Priebus and the RNC are FOX minions who placate every last whim of that organization in order to curry favor during elections. While both of these thoughts are totally valid and correct, this move by the RNC is also quite telling. It says in one instant that not only do a lot of people watch CNN and NBC, but it also proves that the GOP is quite aware of it and is also quite aware of how insane their party has become.
In GOP world candidates say whatever they want on tv. It’s edited and re-edited out of existence later. They also want you to believe that CNN and NBC have no viewers. If you read the comments on any right wing blog pertaining to television news you will find a common thread about FOX having the most viewers while CNN, NBC, MSNBC and all the rest are just leftist, faux news organizations whose viewership consists of Micheal Moore, Jane Fonda and Rachel Maddow’s lesbian friends.
For those folks there is only one truly “fair and balanced” channel:
You see, for people who see FOX as the only network that can be trusted to provide “fair and balanced” coverage they also believed that nobody could beat the Wiz. In other words if it’s copyrighted it must be true.
The Republican party wants you to take it seriously. They want you to believe that they have lifted Excalibur from the stone. They want you to believe that their party is the party of ideas and jobs and morality while constantly careening off the rails and not now knowing quite what to do about it.
If you drill into people’s heads day after day that FOX is the only channel with the most viewers then why bother bringing it up at all? Could it be that Republicans know that these stations are watched by millions and that they happily provide Republicans with an unedited venue to talk their crazy talk and ample rope with which to hang themselves? In full HD?
I am sure the RNC sits around daydreaming of a world in which Rick Perry never tried to count to three, where Niggerhead was just a ranch and where Ted Nugent is taken seriously. For the rest of us, we can only hope this story is like some Groundhog Day comedy that continuous to treat us to the outrageous spectacle of Republican candidates being hung politically by their own words, one by one, like knights on a futile quest for an imaginary grail.
Nevertheless, I have to say there is a downside to all of this. If the the RNC’s decision to ban NBC and CNN from the 2016 debates really sticks, I may finally have to get cable. I mean, there is no way I could miss the GOP impaling itself again and again while I get to laughingly shout my favorite quote of their own King Arthur: “Well, there you go again.” I tell ya, it just doesn’t get better than that.

I’m not a conspiracy guy. I mean, I do love a good conspiracy every now and then. But not because I believe them. I am just fascinated with what people can come up with. The latest conspiracy taking hold is the result of the recent story of a 16 year old girl who was kidnapped by her insane uncle after he tortured and killed her mother and younger brother and then burned his own house down.
Some people, like yours truly, are now starting to think there may be more to this story than just a good ol’ fashioned torture, murder, arson, kidnapping yarn featuring an underage, defenseless hottie. What I mean to say is, I am expecting the story to go something like this:
The girl and her uncle were doing it and having this whole secret love affair. However, the girls family was getting in the way of her love for her man so they decided to lure them to his house, torture them, kill them and then destroy the evidence in a blazing fire. They would then head off together into the great wide open and live a happy life. Only, things didn’t turn out so well. I guess they forgot about the dad or the police or something. Anyway, after running off together into the wilderness the uncle is killed by the FBI during a daring rescue operation. The girl, now knowing that the jig is up, simply uses this unbelievable opportunity to just pin it all on him! I mean, she’s as insane and sociopathic as he was. She’s just going with plan b.
Of course, I could just be imagining things. But then why is the media making such a big story out of it? Is it because we are in the late summer news doldrums? Is Egypt just bumming everyone out? No, I think it’s because they know this is going to turn into the next Dateline NBC episode of the decade. It’s going to be a story about a hot, Britney Spears looking 16 year old, with big breasts, doing it with her dangerous older uncle who goes crazy, kills her whole family and then runs off with her into the wild to continue having uninterrupted sex. I mean, if that’s not a totally made for TV mini-series then I don’t know what is.
The news shows are going to make alot of money when this story blows up. If it doesn’t? If there’s no story here? Then I guess I will be thrown onto the “truther” pile with all the others conspiracy nuts while Hannah fends off offers to do porno when she turns 18.
Stay tuned to this one.

So, a funny thing happened back in March of this year. The headline to this story really speaks for itself:
“Reince Priebus: RNC Planning $10 Million Minority Outreach.”
Funny right? After this past week of Zimmerman verdicts and Ted Nugent saying Zimmerman should sue Trayvon Martin’s parents for pain and suffering, no, seriously, he said that, I really thought it was 1985 all over again and I was watching a movie from my childhood.
Reince, it turns out, is Monty Brewster. He has to blow $10 million trying to get blacks to like the GOP in order to get the real prize of $100 million dollars; paid for by white, wealthy individual donors in their respective states looking to influence 2014 elections.
That has to be it because there is no other logical explanation for why the GOP would spend all that money trying to reach black people. And $10 million? Nigga, please. That’s chump change! You want to reach black people you have do put your money where your mouth is. Unfortunately for the GOP, their mouth is filled with all sorts of racist shit.
The way the plot goes, Reince is not allowed to tell anybody why he blew the $10 mil or he loses it all. Further, once spent he must also have nothing to show for it. Based on the RNC’s track record with black people, you would think that would be easy.
But this week Warren Cox, played here by George Zimmerman’s trial, fucked that up for the RNC. The trial and its verdict proved that Republicans do have something to show for their efforts. They have given black people yet another reminder as to why never to vote for them. The blatant racism Republicans have shown this past week, along with their utter contempt and distain for Trayvon Martin and his parents, ensures that black people will go to the polls in 2014, look at the selection of GOP candidates before them, and loudly and proudly shout in unison “none of the above!”
As far as remakes go, this one is a classic.
And tell me that’s not Rupert Murdoch.
