Is Obama a politican? I wonder sometimes.

By tmcbpatriot | November 30, 2010 | No Comments

Is Obama a politican? I wonder sometimes. takemycountrybackIt is getting stranger and stranger. The more news that comes out of the White House, the less clear it is that Obama is a politician. If he is, then bless his heart he does seem to understand how this all works.

Obama declared yesterday that he was freezing pay for federal workers for two years in order to help bring down the deficit. Huh? Is he kidding? Sometimes I think it is April 1st every other day and Obama will just start laughing and say “Only kidding, sorry I could not help myself. I just love to see your faces when I do stuff like this.”

Only, this is no joke. President Obama is concerned about deficits! A so-called progressive Democrat is worried about deficits during an economic crisis when millions are out of work and their unemployment benefits are about to run out.

If I may quote from “O Brother Where Art Thou”:

Pete: That don’t make no sense!
Everett: Pete, it’s a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

Dick Cheney once said that deficits don’t matter. Maybe he was right about that. It all depends on who is President, I guess. But the facts remain that Obama seems to want to please Republicans and will piss of his voting base to do it. He does not seem to understand that in order to win an election he must not care too much about the other side. Perhaps Obama is worried about those so-called “independents.” If so, then I have a message for Obama: Mr. President, those people do not pay attention to politics until a month before an election! Whatever gains you think you are providing in terms of those people, they will forget in two years. Does he not know this?

Channeling Ronald Reagan: There they go again…

By tmcbpatriot | November 29, 2010 | No Comments

Channeling Ronald Reagan: There they go again... takemycountrybackI was clicking around the FOX “News” website this evening just for laughs and saw that Brit Hume is hosting a series called “The Right, All Along: The Rise Fall & Future of Conservatism”…the inside story of a political movement that, against all odds, changed the world.”

I know. The title is absurd and insulting to intelligent people. It seems so ironic too to do a series on Reagan during the current debate about extending the Bush tax cuts when Reaganomics was such a gigantic failure. It would seem, to any learned person, that watching a glossing over of history like this would do the opposite of what it is intending. But then this is FOX and to them history is like silly putty — something playable to be stretched any which way. In fact, the synopsis of this program explains it this way:

“The Right, All Along: The Rise Fall & Future of Conservatism is a unique blend of history, journalism, and storytelling that explains how we got to where we are today and where we may be heading.”

Hilarious right? Only on FOX will you find a program that actually claims to be a “unique blend” of history mixed with bullshit. The series is also split into “Reels,” to make it sound more historic I guess. The one that ran today was called “Reel Four: Reagan’s Resolve.” This unabashed piece of propaganda pretending to be Frontline is meant to do one thing – give FOX’s viewing audience so many lies and misdirection that they will be screaming for extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone by Christmas, and do so because Reagan did it, and of course he was the second coming.

Now, you might ask how I am so sure this is propaganda, besides just for the fact that it’s on FOX. Well, I will lay it out for you. Here is what was covered in just this evenings episode, taken from the website:

Obama’s polling points to defeat in 2012….Oh really?

By tmcbpatriot | November 27, 2010 | No Comments

Obamas polling points to defeat in 2012....Oh really? takemycountrybackI am often amazed as to how some folks become journalists and what happens to them along the way. Writing everyday for a national audience can be exciting and fun. But like most things, once you start getting paid to do it you can get lazy or simply just burn out. I wonder if that is what happened to Byron York, the Chief Political Correspondent for the Washington Examiner?

Today I read an article titled: Obama’s poll numbers point to his defeat in 2012.” Now, I read this and thought: how much effort does it take to write an article like this? Based on my reading of it, not much. Seems Mr. York did some research of exit polls from 2008 and compared them to Gallup’s “weekly analysis of the president’s approval rating, drawn from multiple polls broken down by age, gender, political philosophy, and the like.” Know what he found? He found something truly amazing. He found that Obama’s poll numbers are down, and as such he is going to be a one term President! Wholly Cow! What a scoop!!

Let me see if I got this straight. We just had a mid-term election where Republicans took over the Congress and would have taken the Senate had it not been for a motley crew of totally inept and insane tea baggers. Any jackoff with half a brain could tell you what that means in terms of Obama’s popularity, right? But this genius actually stopped what he was doing to write it down. Give this man a Pulitzer why don’t we? What is funny about this guy’s article too is that he seems to have omitted a few mildly important facts.

Joe Klein is a Hack!

By tmcbpatriot | November 25, 2010 | No Comments

Joe Klein is a Hack! takemycountrybackJoe Klein is a hack! While he could be accused of being a hack simply because of his Iraq war mongering, one in which he now denies ever having written about, his real crime is far worse. He is guilty of being a hack becuase he spends his time promoting whatever is popular and based on who is President. But don’t take my word for it:

From Meet the Press, 2003:

“This is a really tough decision. War may well be the right decision at this point. In fact, I think it–it’s–it-it probably is.”

“Saddam has — Saddam Hussein has to be taken out… The message has to be sent because if it isn’t sent now, if we don’t do this now, it empowers every would-be Saddam out there and every would-be terrorist out there.”

Fast forward to today when Klein said this:

“I had written column after column about the bloody futility of Bush’s war in Iraq…”

Sounds convincing, so long as you don’t read anything else he wrote or said. But you have to understand Joe’s predicament. Bush was President at the time and as Klein put it in a recent Time Magazine article: “many of my readers had voted him in.”

Another bit of hackery Mr. Klein reveled in during the same period was that of privatizing Social Security. Here he is in Time Magazine, Feb. 06, 2005:

Paul Krugman gets it!

By tmcbpatriot | November 22, 2010 | 3 Comments

Paul Krugman gets it! takemycountrybackThese days there seems to be so few pundits and talking heads who really seem to understand what it happening in this country. Most talk about politics as if it were some kind of game. As if it were one team against the other, and in the end just good clean fun. These folks are lovingly referred to as Hacks, a “shortening of hackney, which described a horse that was easy to ride and available for hire.” This week Salon.com has even taken to making a list that they call the “Hack Thirty”:

“The worst columnists and cable news commentators America has to offer. Think of this as our all-star team — of the most predictable, dishonest and just plain stupid pundits in the media.”

But if you sift carefully through the detritus that is the American main stream media, you can find folks who really seem to understand what is going on in a way that resonates so clearly it is almost as if they are reading your own thoughts. Paul Kugman is one such fellow.

Why do Republicans mock the office of the Presidency?

By tmcbpatriot | November 20, 2010 | 2 Comments

Why do Republicans mock the office of the Presidency? takemycountrybackWould you support a presidential run by Donald Trump? Yes or No?

This was CNN.com’s asinine polling questions of the day today. Their polling questions are always moronic, but this particular question seemed to exemplify the complete mockery and total disrespect for the office of the Presidency by republicans. Just a brief google search and I found this:

“On Good Morning America Donald Trump made an interesting statement to the country: that he will decide whether or not he wants to run for President of the United States by June. Many believe that his decision to make the announcement in June has to do with his show “Celebrity Apprentice” which is coming up in spring.”

[Trump] says that it might be “fun” and that he wants to see great things happen for the country sometime soon. His final decision on whether or not he will run for the 2012 presidency will be decided by no later than June, at least that is what he claimed in national television.

I read stuff like this and it makes me rub my temples vigorously. It means that as a society we might put up with such a farce. Now granted, 83% of the people polled said they would not support him, but that other 17% who would was made up of 22,552 votes! That’s quite a lot of people who would seriously consider Donald Trump running for President of the United States.

It’s a silly question, but if you have to ask, yes of course he would run as a Republican. That should come as no surprise though because republicans just love to roll out the craziest, most nutty, most vastly inexperienced goofballs money can buy. One look at who they would consider publicly supporting, even for a short time, just leaves one with the feeling that the Republican party holds the office of the Presidency in very low regard.

Let’s look at some past contenders and some rumored potentials past and present to see what I mean:

Uh Oh…Is Obama about to make his biggest mistake yet?

By tmcbpatriot | November 19, 2010 | No Comments

Uh Oh...Is Obama about to make his biggest mistake yet? takemycountrybackIn just over a month the Bush tax cuts are going to expire. That’s great news for a lot or reasons. The most glaring being that the Bush tax cuts have been in place since 2003 and have not done anything significant in terms of economic growth. You might even say that since 2003 the country’s economic standing fell off a cliff. That sounds about right considering we had eight years of Republican rule in Washington and George W. Bush as President.

Republicans are now clamoring for extending these very same tax cuts. To not do so, they claim, will be the end of America as we know it and will put the country into an economic tailspin. So basically they are saying that we need to keep doing what we have been doing since 2003 because it worked so well.

The Bush Administration’s “Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act” was supposed to be this grand idea, or so we were led to believe, by which rich people would be so thrilled by the new tax break that they would reconsider their off shore tax shelters and just put that new found money back into the economy. This would naturally lead to job creation. Well you know the rest. It was, of course, a mitigated disaster of historic proportions.

Those very same Republicans, most of whom are still in office today and who gave us the shaft, want us to agree to more of it and to do it FOREVER! Now you would think this is a no brainer. All Obama has to do is remind the public about how badly these tax cuts hurt the economy and how it did not create job growth, etc. But unbelievably, that is not what appears to be happening.

Is Obama really that naive?

Is Obama really that naive? takemycountryback

Man, I really don’t know what to make of this quote by Obama from a new book by Richard Wolffe. You can read the article by Greg Sargent, but here is what the President said regarding health care:

“You have to give the Republicans credit, just from a pure political perspective, that they used every instrument available to them in the Senate to prolong the process in such a way that helped drive down support nationally, that gave everybody a sense that somehow Washington was broken.”

If Obama was truly surprised by this, if he simply ignored what every person on the “professional left” was shouting from the rooftops daily, if he and his closest advisors were truly blindsided by politics 101, then we are guaranteed a total Republican takeover of the country come 2012. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
